A LITTLE HISTORY:

This 1868 home of the John Hopkins family (Baltimore Hospital and University fame) will take you back in time to the extravagant time period of the post Civil War Gilded Age. Explore this canal town of the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay. Yes, George Washington slept here many times. French troops under the command of the Marquis de Lafayette encamped here and named the city during the Revolutionary War. In 1812, the town suffered the ravages of the British, who burned it to the ground.

LA CLE D'OR TODAY:

Today you may enjoy the town and the ambiance of La Cle D'or Guesthouse with your choice of one of our exquisite rooms: the Lafayette suite with private bathroom and antechamber/ sunroom, or the Rochambeau with private bath with tub. Also available is the La Peu bedroom which could share the bath of the Rochambeau Suite. Unusual antiques abound and Strauss chandeliers illuminate most rooms. Delight in the original parlor alcove; radiate in the sunny garden rooms; or stroll in our lovely brick-walled "secret" garden entered by wrought iron gates. A landscaped flagstone terrace, furnished brick portico, and invigorating outdoor spa are available to guests. Lavish rooms include cable TV and VCR. Start your day with a filling and satisfying breakfast served in our Provence blue and yellow dining room. The home is centrally air-conditioned and heated. La Cle D'or Guesthouse is only moments away from antiquing, historical sites, boating and marinas, museums, golfing, nature walks, kayaking, fishing and seafood restaurants. Lafayette Suite- $135 per double occupancy
La Peu Suite - $110 per double occupancy
Note: All rooms are subject to five percent state sales tax.

Guest check-in time is 3 PM or after, and check-out time is noon.

Gift certificates are available for a truly unique and thoughtful gift.

Children:
There are limited accommodations for children 12 years old and under. Please phone to make special arrangements.

Smoking is limited indoors due to insurance regulations.
